Colton's First Day of School
He started school this morning,
And he seemed so very small.
As I walked there beside him
in the kindergarten hall.
And as he took his place beside
the others in his class,
I realized how all too soon
those first few years can pass.
Remembering, I saw him as
he first learned how to walk
The words that we alone made out
when he began to talk.
This little boy so much absorbed
in learning how to write
It seems as though he must have grown
to boyhood overnight.
My eyes were blurred as hastily
I brushed the tears away
Lest by some word or sign of mine
I mar his first big day.
Oh how I longed to stay with him
And keep him by the hand
To lead him through the places
To lead him through the places
that he couldn't understand.
And something closely kin to fear
was mingled with my pride.
I knew he would no longer be
a baby by my side.
But he must have his chance to live,
to work his problems out
The privilege to grow and learn
what life is all about.
And I must share my little boy
with friends and work and play;
He's not a baby anymore-
he's a kindergartner today.

What a beautiful post and how well I remember those emotions many years ago when I first took Mark and then you, Traci, to kindergarten. The years then flew by so treasure each one. You still have a lot of years ahead with a 2-year old and an unborn daughter, so enjoy each and everyone. Right now I have tears in my eyes so I know you must have had them in yours when you took our Big C to his first day of big school. This post is from both Dad and I. Love you.

Traci this is beautiful. You amaze me how you manage to do all you do.I think it is harder seeing Colton go to school than it was any of the boys.

Just doesn't seem possible that your Big C is starting school! WOW! Where has "5" yr's. gone? Seems like no time since he was just a little tyke toddling along! I love that poem - it's a real tear-jerker. I have to agree with your mom about enjoying your children! The years do have a way of flying by -- they'll be going off to college before u know it!
I remember Sarah's first day of school and my tears and aching heart just as if it were yesterday.Your post is so beautiful Traci and the picture of Colton is awesome. He is such a fine looking young man! Hope he enjoys school and his friendships. I bet he will miss Carson alot.
